Sunset Under a Bridge
DESCRIPTION
This cityscape was taken in Long Island City while walking under a bridge. The colors of the buildings shining through the gray, gritty bridge made for a beautiful contrast. It really shows how the industrial city of New York can simultaneously be grimy and romantic. Although most of the photography I do is in black and white, this sunset could only really be captured in color in order to express this juxtaposition of grittiness and tenderness. AUTHOR
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, I immigrated with my family to New Jersey in the 90s. The magnetism of New York City, with its looming skyscrapers and vibrant streets captivated me as a child and five years ago my photography brought me to settle in this city.
In capturing the city's streets, architecture, and people, I strive to show the beauty and psychology behind what we see as commonplace. Winning the Santa Fe Nikon Photographic Scholarship in 2016, and having my photograph published in the Huffington Post has given me the opportunity to pursue my photography career even further.
Apart from selling my fine art prints I also teach beginner photography courses and give photography walks around various neighborhoods in New York City.
