Sunset silhouettes
DESCRIPTION
This photograph was one of the first real surprise shots I ever took; I never imagined it would be so simple and beautiful.I was running around the Maribyrnong River, a fairly unremarkable river running through the North-Western suburbs of Melbourne. As I am an avid runner, I had been around the river easily over 1,000 times leading up to this point, and at all times of the day. Whilst I had always enjoyed the serenity, I'd never fully appreciated its beauty and the profound impact it had on my life. But this day, I looked a little closer and was awestruck by the colours in the sky and overwhelming stillness upon which it reflected. I immediately returned home for my camera and found a spot to shoot from. The position I took the final photograph from was an inconsiderable spot; a random spot on the bank which didn't even face directly into the sunset (which can be seen by the gradient of the firmament from left to right). But it was this spot which showed the richest of colour, with the most symmetrical and sharp of reflections.
I learned enormously from this photograph, as it was at this point which I understood that a photographer sees the world differently. Indeed, I was beginning to see it differently. In my eye, the insignificant had become beautiful.
AUTHOR
I am a Melbourne-born 28 year old who works professionally in the cancer diagnostics research / development industry. I'm an avid traveler and outdoors type, where I believe photography only adds to the enjoyment on my adventures. I have an eclectic background (ranging from music and sports to studying engineering) which is reflected through my photographic work. Whilst I am a sucked for a reflective and glowing sunrise / sunset, I also search to find beauty and expression in more mundane aspects of everyday life. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy the experience of capturing the moments.
