Climate Change - The Swiss Alps Oldest Glacier Melting
DESCRIPTION
This picture shows how one of the Swiss Alps oldest glaciers is partly being protected from melting - by covering it with special tarpaulins. The Swiss glaciologists and workers try to minimize melting since many years.Experts say that this glacier has retreated dramatically in the last 150 years. They want to avoid the fact that the exposed areas melt rapidly. The glacier is at least 11,500 years old and is very sensitive to climate changes.
