Vivid colours and the vibrating traces of light intimate a truly electrifying visual experience. The composition lapses into psychadelia and sends the eye in a dizzying, centrifugal motion. The aurora-like rays bend like sound-waves at visual frequencies that seem almost audible. From this photo, one can derive qualities of all types of music: the elegance of Mozart, the brilliance of disco or the impact of death metal.

This piece plays with the luminescence of CDs, a physical manifestation of music and sound. Water droplets refract, disperse and disrupt the light. The CD is magnified with a cool blue halo, giving it a 3D effect. All the action is isolated over an inky-black background.

However, the viewer's biggest mystery is how on earth this was taken. Note that no image-editing was conducted with this shot. Taking this image required hours of studio-setup, trial-and-error and really just pure luck with the spontaneity of the disk's reflections. During the whole process, deafening music with booming bass was played in order to vibrate the set and achieve the frenetic visual action. A cotton bud was used to dab water droplets on the disk which was laid on black felt. I achieved the swirling motions of colour and light by wrapping torches in coloured cellophane and spinning it around the disk in a long-exposure shot.
