Honorable Mention
Pes Planus
DESCRIPTION
This work is a science-based exploration of the effects that severe “pes planus,” or flat, feet have had on Montefusco's daily life. Pes Planus examines the ways in which her pain has been experienced through pressure; emphasizing the deformity of her feet and the weight they carry daily, working with bothabstract images and representation to express the ideas. Montefusco pushes the boundaries of the medium in her image titled Nerves by creating an abstract microscopic nerve cell system representing the internal “roots” of her pain, bringing to light a subject not seen by the naked eye.
