DESCRIPTION
from the Singular Improbabilities AUTHOR
After university I became a commercial photographer specializing in fashion and architecture. Since those days I taught art photography, photo journalism and the history of photography at the University of Victoria for many years. My work lies somewhere near an intersection between Piero della Francesca and Salvador Dali, between Sandro Botticelli and Paul Delvaux. Current work includes street photography in Europe, the image as metaphor and the nude, both in the studio and the landscape. I work out of a beautiful studio in Victoria's historic Chinatown and shoot with a Nikon D800e, the trinity of lenses and Photoshop CS6 with a mess of plug-ins.
I lecture and write about the history of photography, especially the nude and the portrait and have won many awards including the Photographic Society of America's for critical writing and a gold medal from Trierenberg for portraiture. I've curated or juried more than fifty exhibitions of photography and served on the board of the BC Civil Liberties Association and the Society for Photographic Education. For biographic info see my listings in Who's Who in American Art and the Macmillan Encyclopedia of Photographic Artists and Innovators.
Publication credits include Kew Magazine, the Globe & Mail, Saturday Night, CNN, MGM, Mandalay Pictures, Surreal Beauty Magazine, Camera Canada, Camera Mainichi, the Raddle Moon, Image in Progress, EROS Magazine, the Stereo Show, Object and Image, Photographic Possibilities, Nude Closeup, Trierenberg Super Circuit, the Exposure Award - Dreamers Collection, Graphis Nudes and World's Greatest Erotic Art.
