DESCRIPTION
In my series "Vertical Island" I explore the public housing estates of Singapore, the dominant component of the built up landscape of the island nation. My primary objective is to reveal the visual qualities of the buildings and their surroundings to the viewer, condense them to almost abstract compositions removed from their ordinary function and submit a request for their closer observation. From its humble beginnings, gaining independence in 1963, Singapore has grown into one of the wealthiest nations on the planet. This economic development supports a population of more than 6 million now, with the majority living in public housing estates, which keep expanding.
