DESCRIPTION
The UK is reducing it's carbon emissons and will stop using coal power stations by 2024. These man made landscapes have been part of the landscape for generations but now are being demolished as the country looks to renewable and nuclear energy for its supplies. Many of the power stations and their cooling towers have now disappeared. Before the demolition began I wanted to preserve these iconic structures to remind us of our past and the long term effects of burning fossil fuels still has on our futures. This seems especially important now that COP26 is approaching and scientists globally are stating the World needs to act fast, and reduce emissions dramatically by 2030.
AUTHOR
A major concern within my practice is the maintaining of a dual narrative. As a visual practitioner, it remains that the audience find my work visually accessible in addition to conceptually stimulating.Whilst developing a series of work, often the personal journey of investigation through a process becomes an integral part of the work itself lending projects to a time based aspect.
Although my work appears to deal primarily with issues of space, particularly urban or architectural, an additional factor of interest to me is human impact or lack of it on spaces. Despite the absence of the figure in the majority of images I produce, there is usually trace evidence of human activity or a notable sense of anticipation of human presence.
