Honorable Mention
Mom, where are you?
DESCRIPTION
On a cold October morning, a young elk pauses in the middle of the Madison River to call for its mother. I saw this young elk following its mother along the bank of the Madison River in Yellowstone National Park early one morning and quickly made my way down the bank of the river to a position where I could capture a backlit image of the animal as it crossed the river. While its mother sprinted ahead, the young elk paused mid-river to call-out. The crisp morning air, along with the backlit scene allowed me to also capture its breath with the call.
