The muses are divine beings that inspire art and knowledge, in this self-portrait I personify a muse of music, specifically the one in charge of inspiring the interpreters of the Mejorana, a folk instrument from Panama. In this selfportrait I wear part of one of the typical costumes of my country, my "Pollera de lujo" and white tembleques (handmade accessories for Panamanian women with pearls and crystals) on my head forming a kind of crown.
Highlighting the relationship between the magical, the ethereal, but at the same time the dangerous, with the female figure is a concept that I have been developing and exploring since the beginning of my artistic career.
Through my art I mix the visual, cultural and magical-religious aspects of my country while bringing my history and my idea of magic to a visual plane.
My self-portraits resemble Renaissance art, with this I make the statement that our culture and therefore that of our ancestors has always deserved a place and recognition in history.
