3rd Place winner
Alien (ice cave bynight)
DESCRIPTION
The entrance of the cave was almost invisible because buried in the snow but once in there the view was amazing. I often saw stalactites of ice in winter, but never saw stalagmites before and the cave floor was full of them. I decided to make them the main subject and placed the camera on the ground, focusing on them and facing the entrance. I tried a Pano and immediately fell in love with the composition, but being nighttime the light wasn’t enough to make the shot. So I decided to make some light with my front torch and the result was amazing: the first vertical shot I made reminded me the Alien Movie. The final image is a two row pano of 7 pics each. A very difficult photo made at f7 in complete harsh lighting condition. I really love the result, it seems something from another world! AUTHOR
I am a designer from Milan, so creativity is already part of my work. I like to travel and discover new places, but always with the aim of taking pictures. I dedicate great care to location-scouting with long mountain hikes in search of the perfect spot. I always shot the real night-sky of the subject, planning pictures where the milkyway is co-protagonist of the scene. My Mission is to translate what the eyes see and often the camera can't. Using stacking and combining different exposures, only to reproduce reality in all its art, without fictions and replacements.
