Honorable Mention
The land
DESCRIPTION
Despite living in the village for years, a Dalit community of Nilphamari had no allocated cremation grounds. The ordeal of performing the last rites for the deceased without a crematorium had become a part of their lives. Deeply concerned about the lack of access to cremation grounds, Chabi Rani led her Dalit community to seek Khas land for a crematorium from the government. Although the first application failed to bring any results even after three months, on the District Commissioner’s advice, they reapplied and were awarded 10 decimals of land for a permanent crematorium and one lakh taka to build the enclosure. A Muslim man from the village gave up his land for the cremation grounds. Today, after years of struggle, the Dalit community has built a permanent crematorium. Yet, they are forced to bury the dead as cremation remains too expensive for them AUTHOR
Nature contains several canvases with culture and color. Growingup in such a kinda mood has had a big impact on my career. Here I am
Rakibul Alam Khan. I was brought up in a family with a great era of art and traditions around. That taught me to see colors in people's smile
and their moves. I always love to spend my work time with people
from several communities, either socially recognized or not.
Photography is my sense is a great part to preserve time through
our life journey. Growing up in a small locality with vast
variations, I feel it’s my responsibility to preserve time and
express it in my way. Every day I start my journey to meet new
people, to meet a new genre of community, and to search for the natural
smile we have as a country. A human being contains the flow of
own family with cultural influences. It’s a responsibility to keep
them alive. I love to be a part of people’s emotions and their
unconditional love. I believe “Medium is not prior, love is most.”
