Honorable Mention
Microscopy Nebula
DESCRIPTION
Whilst using a microscope with a 200x-magnification objective, I was able to create richly coloured, space-like abstract images, by adjusting the light controls and changing the focus to blur and enlarge certain elements on the microscope slide, whilst sharpening others. The 'stars' within the nebula 'clouds', are merely specks of dust scattered across the slide. Image information:
1.3s; ISO 100; fixed aperture
Equipment:
Canon EOS 7D
Brunel SP300 Biological Microscope
AUTHOR
22-year old nature and wildlife photographer, studying a photography degree at Falmouth University in Cornwall and based on the south coast of England.I have been photographing since the age of 10, encouraged by my father and grandfather who are both keen amateur photographers, and have a particular interest in birds, fungi and landscapes/naturescapes. My focus is always about capturing the best light in an image and this aspect dominates what I photograph.
Recently my best work has involved macro focus-stacking techniques to capture fungi and lichen, as well as more abstract imagery using a microscope to create cloud nebulas of rich colour and vibrance.
