And you shine, though
DESCRIPTION
"And you shine, though" is a verse from a poem by the Italian poet Pier Paolo Pasolini: "They teach you not to shine and you shine, though" (Ti insegnano a non splendere e tu splendi, invece) that I have chosen as the title of one of my photographic project. This ongoing project aims to present the difficult path of young (and not-so-young) women to unlearn and forget what society has chosen for them. In my project, I always start from the presence and the search for Beauty, not as a superficial pleasure, but as the essence of life itself. I try to represent the relationship between Women and the models of beauty which society has built to represent them.
AUTHOR
Giovanna Tonzanu is Italian, but she lives in Spain, where she teaches the Italian Language. She studied languages and literature, and this is the reason for her love for literature, poetry, and paintings. Her pictures try to tell a story, paint a scene, or create an atmosphere. In her photos, she tends to represent human beauty, bonds, loneliness, and social issues. She works on projects representing identity, time, places, and their mutual connection. Her last ongoing project, “And you shine, though", is about women and their struggle to be themselves in this society.
