Honorable Mention
The Poser
DESCRIPTION
The cub’s morning started off well. His father caught an antelope and he and his two siblings had shared in the feast. After eating, he took a little walk before turning back to rejoin his family. I watched the cub chew pieces of the head of the antelope before beginning his walk. When he reached the tree and stopped, posing so perfectly, I raised my camera to capture this special moment.
Traces of his morning meal show in pink tinges on his paws and mouth.
AUTHOR
I am an amateur wildlife photographer who enjoys spending time observing animals in their natural habitats. After years of working in the banking industry, I am finally fulfilling a dream of spending my days doing something creative that I am passionate about. I've learned a lot about photography from experimentation, talking and photographing with experienced photographers, and researching photography approaches, tools, and my subjects. While living in Manhattan in October of 2018, a Mandarin Duck mysteriously appeared in The Pond in Central Park. I went to look for it and found it surrounded by photographers with ginormous lenses, many of whom were crouched on a rock in The Pond. The professionals made room for me on the rock where I could share their vantage point, take photos with my iPhone, and even ask them a few questions. It was then and there that I knew I wanted to spend more of my time with animals and learn how to use a "big girl camera," so I did.
