DESCRIPTION
Papua New Guinea is famous for its untouched scenery and mountainous landscape which is mostly covered in a dense jungle. The steep topography actually continues down beneath the water which means a depth of 100m+ of water can be reached even within a couple of hundred metres off shore! It is believed that some marine critters would rise from the depths to shallower water to feed during night time and some of these creatures are attracted to light. As a result, a light this is used for the safety of scuba divers during a night dive often attracts marine critters that are rarely seen during the day and on the reefs at night. On this very night, several of these tiny squids decided to come and investigate the unusually bright light and ended up firing ink towards each other. I was fortunate to capture one of them performing this action.
