Structures
DESCRIPTION
n the contemporary landscape, industrial structures are very imposing. They take the form of monumental constructions. In my own way, I attempt to abolish the purely utilitarian purpose assigned to these machines and spaces, in order to reveal their raw, linear, textured, and colorful aesthetics.
These architectural curiosities, unusual, visually satisfying or disturbing, yet intriguing, attract my photographic eye. I emphasize their complexity, openness, and linearity through the construction of a structured photographic frame.
Motionless and silent, these machines then appear as structures/sculptures.
AUTHOR
Alice Creux, based in Lyon, is an emerging photographer. Through the medium of photography, she presents us with still and silent sculptures/structures.She began her education in photography and cinema with a bachelor's degree at the University Lumière Lyon 2. Early on, the artist focused more on the analysis of images rather than image production. Her meticulous approach led her to dissect the composition of the frame, the management of off-screen spaces, colorimetry, camera movements, and editing.
During this period, the artist developed a true passion for black and white analog photography, rigorously mastering the process of shooting, developing, and enlarging prints. The use of high-contrast black and white allows her to eliminate any visual distractions related to color, focusing solely on shapes and shadows. She then embarked on capturing the industrial world. These black and white photographs offer a new readability to mechanical details and brightly colored machinery.
Alice Creux later joined École de Condé and completed her first internship at Diamantino Labo Photo, where she discovered the universe and specificities of a professional laboratory specializing in exhibition prints, both in color and black and white. It was this first experience with Diamantino Quintas that introduced her to color adjustment, a subtle mastery of colors that lies at the heart of her artistic work.
She then delved into the multiple possibilities of digital photography and its post-production. The genesis of "Structures" is the combination of these new digital tool skills and her deep interest in forms and framing. Machinery and mechanical details are replaced by factories. Colors are embraced, worked on, and enhanced. As for the framing, it is adorned with mundane colored details and perfected through the use of post-production.
