Cruise Passengers
DESCRIPTION
The phenomenon of migration by sea from the North African coasts to Europe unites a multitude of desperate individuals fleeing from wars and hunger. This historical event is destined to mark our era and is one of the main causes of debate and conflict among European states. To escape the narrative "pity" that surrounds the daily chronicle of shipwrecks and deaths at sea, I have decided to offer my own more "ironic" interpretation of the events. This is not meant to underestimate or "diminish" these tragedies, but rather to emphasize them in a different way.
I relate a luxury cruise ship to African children who play by diving into the sea from the port of Stone Town (Zanzibar). What becomes apparent is the children's attempt to reach this luxurious vessel by sailing towards a hope of a better life, which for the majority of them will not turn out to be true.
