Honorable Mention
The bird and the nest! - Plastic in polarized or partially polarized light.
DESCRIPTION
Plastic debris poses a great danger to birds. They can be mistaken for food by birds and lead to blockages, injuries or even death. AUTHOR
I was born in Iran and have been living in Frankfurt since 1986, where I studied computer engineering. From 1988 to 2000, I worked as a graphic designer and travel and press photographer for various publishers and agencies. From 2000 to 2020 I worked as a user interface designer for SAP AG, among others.
As an artista, I have been involved in photography for decades. To date, I have created several photo series, some of which I have also exhibited. For my war photo collage series "Ver-rueckte Alltags-Abdruecke" I received the special prize of the German Photo Championship in 1996 and another prize in 2002.
As a photographer, I have mainly been involved in experimental photography for decades - including macro photography. In this area, I experiment with different processes and source materials and search for aesthetic forms that are not recognisable as such at first glance.
Plastics have had a firm place in art for decades and are thematised on various levels. The aesthetics and diverse applications of this fascinating material are juxtaposed with the pollution of and damage to the environment. I address these contradictions in my photographs.
For my current photo series "The Beautiful & the Fragile", I mainly use plastics/plastic materials from everyday life, such as packaging or foils, which are transformed into new shapes using heat. I illuminate the resulting shapes with polarised or partially polarised light. Due to the refraction of light, they begin to glow colourfully and intensely.
I capture these newly created colours and shapes, some of which are reminiscent of paintings, in photographs. The resulting snapshots are unique and cannot be repeated in this form. Finally, these macro shots were all taken in the studio without the use of AI.
