THUTMOSE III
DESCRIPTION
My photograph presents a modern interpretation of the historical figure Thutmose III, a significant pharaoh of the 18th dynasty of ancient Egypt. This pharaoh, also known as Thutmose the Great, ruled approximately from 1479 to 1425 BCE and is renowned for his military conquests and the expansion of the Egyptian empire. The conceptual photograph captures Thutmose III in a manner that merges history and modern aesthetics. The photograph is characterized by dramatic lighting and the use of a wide-open diaphragm, which gives the portrait depth and intensity. The modern depiction of the historical figure offers viewers a unique perspective on ancient Egypt from the viewpoint of a contemporary artist.
This photograph follows my series Egyptian Transformation created in 2015 and Mummy from 2010. Both these series explore my fascination with ancient Egypt and my ability to connect historical figures with modern elements, thereby creating a dialogue between the past and the present.
In this photograph, I combine realistic elements with imaginative details, creating a piece that not only pays tribute to the great pharaoh but also evokes strong emotional responses and stands as a testament to bridge the past and the present. Created 2020.
