Honorable Mention
Artisanal miner, Ntufia, DRC
DESCRIPTION
Patrick, artisanal miner, work at a cassiterite mine-pit near village Ntufia. As no road to this village in Lubutu territory, 100% of goods and transport of minerals is done by foot. Porters carries up to 80-100kgs of minerals, paid at a very low rate. Similar for goods. Some spend up to three days to make the 17km. After nearly ten years of experience travelling in Africa, I can believe this is one of area where life in DRC is the hardest. Life has flew back in the 1900s, mainly in the situation where global price or raw material is decided thousands of kilometer away. Some people ine area just need to get 1 or 1/2 kg of cassiterite to sell and get what to eat.
AUTHOR
I am pharmacist by profession and I turned out to be an amateur travel photograph. My passion is Africa and I have traveled to many countries as Niger, Benin, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda etc. My main goal is to capture the uniqueness of local cultures in Africa. Although over the years I see how this slowly disappears and globalization inexorably sets in.
