Madeline Arenas, an award-winning photographer, has a remarkable journey in the world of art and photography. Her passion for creativity began at an early age, but like many artists, she faced the common belief that there was no money in art. Despite this, Madeline persisted and found her way back to photography. Let’s delve into her inspiring story:Early Artistic Roots in the Philippines: Madeline was born and raised in Pangasinan, Philippines. Art played a significant role in her upbringing. Her mother recognized her artistic talent and enrolled her in art classes at the tender age of 7. From then on, Madeline saw art everywhere through her eyes. Photography captured her interest during her elementary years, and her first camera was a Kodak Ultralite (film). However, societal expectations led her away from her artistic pursuits.
Rediscovering Photography: In 2003, Madeline purchased her first digital camera, reigniting her passion for photography. She captured the beauty of nature, especially sunsets. But life took an unexpected turn when the recession hit in 2008. With her newborn son as a sample portfolio, she posted her work on Craigslist, kickstarting her photography business—Cubrix Photography. Despite financial challenges, she persevered, driving to San Francisco monthly to provide for her children, Dylan and Kyla.
Awards and Recognition: Madeline’s dedication paid off. By 2009, she ranked among the top 5 portrait photographers in Los Angeles. Her accolades continued in subsequent years, cementing her reputation as a talented artist. Ranked 492nd in the world. 75th place in USA by WPE AWARDS.
Filipino Heritage and Empathy: Madeline’s unique perspective on storytelling and her empathy for others shine through her work. Her Filipino heritage influences her art, infusing it with depth and authenticity.
