DESCRIPTION
The Dani in the Baliem Valley in Highland Papua was discovered only in the last century. Despite the arrival of Christianity, Muslim Indonesians and modern way of life, the Dani still live very much in their traditional farming and hunting way.The tribal chief is still highly respected and exercises great authority. He wears distinctive tribal attire, including face and body paint, feathers, animal bones and teeth, and penis sheaths called “koteka”.
