Ciels, variations #2
Eternally random, the sunset sky exhibits multiple emotions very different from each other depending on each moment and weather variation. Sometimes soothed and calm, the colorful shades are organized with discipline in soft gradients as if it peacefully closes a beautiful day. Other times, the monochrome reflections seem to invade a torn relief. Often also in struggle, the colored clouds confront other darker ones, until the final outcome where, after an intense ight,, the darkness will inevitably win. Every moment is different, absolutely fleeting.
Capturing them turns out to be a purely photographic gesture, namely capturing the light and capturing the decisive moment, theorized by Henri Cartier-Bresson. It is about catching the temporary reflections, different from one moment to the next, the changing tones, the clouds evolving with the winds into different layers, shapes or compositions. The light fading irremediably. As a logical continuation of the photographic act, the development of images reveals other details sometimes not observable with the naked eye. Colors, strata and new compositions are revealed, alowwing the viewer to discover new places, emotions that are as ephemeral and intangible.
In contradiction with the landscape and its classic horizontal format, these “Skies” are revealed exclusively vertically, without reference. Taking up the mystical vertical movement of the head from bottom to top towards the heavens and their infinite immensity. They were captured without exoticism, systematically from the same place, facing due East. If it is not ideal for admiring the sun and its last rays on earth and depicting them as a postcard, it is the ideal theater where to appreciate the reverse shot and the fragile and fleeting reflections on the clouds, opening onto extraordinary worlds, ephemeral and colorful.
