Samburu Warriors
DESCRIPTION
During my travelling through Kenya I visited the Samburu people and stayed in their village for a few days. They were very willing to show and tell me how they live and what is important in their culture. These three Samburu Warriors are wearing authentic clothes. To become a man and get married they have to manage on their own in the bush for a few years without the support of their community. They have to prepare themselves for circumcision because it is not allowed to cry. If you do, you are not allowed to marry. These three warriors are looking out over their land. Looking into their future.
AUTHOR
Sandra is a photographer from the Netherlands. Her interest in photography started as a child because her father took a lot of pictures and developed them himself in his own darkroom. However, it remained a hobby for a long time and she only started studying photography when she was 47 years old. After that, there was no way back. She followed several masterclasses to further develop herself into the photographer she is today. Her interest lies mainly in making autonomous work and art portraits in the style of the old masters.
