Honorable Mention

Evening Over The Ridges
DESCRIPTION
The photograph was taken in the foothills outside my home in California's Central Valley on an evening when the light felt almost sculptural. A storm had just started to clear, and the last sunlight broke across the ridges, tracing their edges like fire. The contrast between the warm earth and the cool sky was striking, a moment where two moods met and balanced. I remember standing in complete silence, watching the shadows slide down the slopes as the clouds kept shifting above. The scene changed every few seconds, one moment heavy and dark, the next filled with color and light. I waited until the atmosphere felt still, when the landscape seemed to breathe and hold its own quiet weight. What drew me most was the tension between permanence and change, the solid form of the mountain beneath a sky that refused to stay still. It’s a photograph about patience, about the brief alignment of light and land, and about the beauty that reveals itself only when you stop and really look. The subdued color palette, deep teal, copper, and smoke mirrors the quiet drama of that evening. It’s a landscape suspended between storm and calm, the kind of moment that disappears as quickly as it arrives. AUTHOR
I’m a California based fine art photographer who has spent the last 17 years chasing light, stories, and the beauty of overlooked places. Born and raised in Southern California and now living in the Central Valley, I focus on the landscapes and rural backroads that most people pass by without a second glance. My work explores time, light, and memory, how the land holds its history and how those traces still live in the present. I use photography to share the hidden side of California that few people see: the quiet barns, the endless skies, the changing seasons across ranchlands and fields. These are the places that shaped me, and I feel a deep connection to them every time I step behind the camera. My goal is to preserve and honor the fading beauty of this region through color, atmosphere, and authenticity.
