The Sleeping Giant
DESCRIPTION
The photograph "The Sleeping Giant" is a motif from my "Creatures" series. The idea for this series was born using pareidolia, which describes the phenomenon of recognising supposed faces and familiar beings or objects in things and patterns. Taken on a beach in Normandy on a cloudy day in winter 2024. AUTHOR
Seascapes and beyondThe primal power of the elements has always fascinated me, especially on the coast. I was born here and call it home. I’m always drawn to remote beaches: lonely expanses, impressive rock formations, roaring surf. Magical places. Here, the air tastes of salt. Full of inspiration and, with a bit of luck, dramatic light. Time to connect with nature. On the coast, the elements collide: earth, fire, water, air. Nature is greater than humanity. In the fabric of space and tides, the individual seems little more than a grain of sand. I strive to capture this feeling of unbridled power and spiritual calm simultaneously in unique images and to touch the heart of the viewer.
Poetic
„The nostalgic poet“ – that’s how a photo agency once described my picturesque style. A style influenced by the rugged landscape of the North Sea, but also by the teachings of the old masters of painting. Artistic landscape photography, shot in black and white on a full-frame Nikon Z camera, enhanced with a well-balanced color scheme. Long exposure times create an ethereal atmosphere in contrast to rigid forms.
Footprints
I spend a lot of time in the most charming places in the national parks along the North Sea and other bodies of water. I often ask myself: What kind of footprint do I want to leave? Here on the coast and beyond.
