Catch of the Day
DESCRIPTION
Every July, a million salmon swim upstream to reach their spawning grounds on the Brooks River in Alaska, and dozens of brown bears try to stop them! Here we see a bear with shaggy, brown fur about to catch a salmon in her mouth at the top of Brooks Falls. The fish is only a few inches away from her gaping jaws. Shot with a Nikon D800 and 28-300mm lens in July 2015.ISO 400, 300mm, f/9.0, 1/1600
AUTHOR
I wanted to be a photographer when I was 15, but my mother said I could always take it up later – so that was that for 30 years! Here’s to what might have been…I turned professional in 2013, and I now focus mainly on wildlife photography. I’ve taken pictures in 24 countries on all seven continents and won various awards including a weekly prize in the Sunday Times/Audley Travel Big Shot competition.
