Nocturne
DESCRIPTION
Having always been fascinated with life’s mysteries that often lie outside of our culture’s established norms, I find that abstraction departs from the prosaic to challenge our perceptions of our everyday world. My passion is to create images that to me are compelling, both emotionally and visually, endeavoring to provide a portal for transmuting the temporal to the empyreal. I am an explorer in a landscape barren of familiarity to sojourn through my own mindful metaphors. The viewer is encouraged to as well.Part of an ongoing project entitled “Stranger in a Strange Land” these images are found captures of paint; cracked, flaked or otherwise deteriorating on rusting metal. The textures are inherent and the colors and tonality are the result of my subsequent response to the subject matter.
AUTHOR
Walter Jakubowski is a photographic artist specializing in abstract imagery that suggests a story. The story is one that the viewer creates in response to the painterly images that spark the imagination. The compositions intimate an ambience that is emotionally vibrant, mysterious and full of drama, blurring the distinction between photography and compositional poetic design. They are purely abstract, presenting rhythms of color, texture and ambiguous forms.Having shown a strong aptitude in the arts in his youth, Walter’s education was primarily in the sciences and engineering fields. Having worked in mechanical design he eventually transitioned into the sphere of Industrial Design as a digital surface sculptor. This was artistically more satisfying but he eventually needed to pursue his own vision. Post retirement he has been able to focus on his passion, Photography. Ever since he picked up his first camera in his ‘20’s his photographic passion has always been the landscape and his visual style evolved with expressions of the abstract culminating in his present work today.
