Dancing Queen
DESCRIPTION
"Dancing Queen" is a select photograph from my series,"Just Another Summer," which depicts the perseverance of the human spirit during the time of COVID set during a New York summer. AUTHOR
Steven A. Avalos was born in Queens, New York in 1984. He graduated CUNY Baruch College with a B.A. in Journalism, where he acquired the fundamental skills of storytelling. However, it was during a brief spell at the NY Daily News that Avalos learned the importance of forging connections between people and ideas. Avalos’ journey as a photographer began in 2010 during his first trip to Europe. With a camera always on-hand, the experience instilled a prominent influence to his creative attributes and remains one to this day. Over the next ten years, Avalos’ innate curiosity has taken him to France, Germany, Italy, Cuba, Ecuador, Canada and other countries across Europe and the Americas.
His work attempts to capture the structure and function of human society, while also conveying culture, humor, history, and values that unite people.
Inspired by street photographers, such as Robert Frank, Joel Meyerowitz, Miron Zownir, and Jean-Pierre Laffont, he submerged himself in candidly capturing the everyday life, its characters, and the unpredictability of his native New York City in 2018.
Since 2019, Avalos volunteers at the NYC Street Photography Collective in fulfilling its mission to advance the understanding and appreciation of contemporary street photography.
