Honorable Mention
Arizona From the Plane
DESCRIPTION
I shot this photograph as the plane was descending in Phoenix, Arizona. I was traveling to Arizona with my mother and sister to visit my Uncle and his family in Tempe. The landscape out the plane window was beautiful and surreal, highlighting all the unique tones of the mountain-scapes of the American Southwest. The body of water cutting through the mountains provides a way to more easily navigate this landscape visually. Because I shot this on color film, I had no idea how the exposure would come out taken through the thick plane windows. I was incredibly surprised and happy by the clarity of details and the variety of tones I was able to capture. AUTHOR
I'm a recently graduated photography student who studied photography and poetry at Hampshire College. Some of the photographers whose work has had a profound effect on my own are Larry Sultan, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Stephen Shore, and Nan Goldin. I'm a strong believer in the power of the camera and how the medium of photography affects the way we see ourselves, those around us, and the world as a whole.
