Devotion, mysticism and sacredness. I like to use this three words to describe Lalibela, the town in Ethiopia considered a unique reality in the world with its churches carved in living rock,created with the intent to give life to a small Jerusalem. Everywhere there is an atmosphere of great devotion and mysticism and there are many who take refuge among these rocks to lead a life of prayer and hermitage. These image were taken in January 2020 and portrays an Orthodox priest holding a large richly decorated processional cross, considered one of the most revered objects of worship in Ethiopia. This photo is part of a project that I did with the intention of documenting some aspects of this ancient and mysterious Christian current only present in Ethiopia that has always fascinated Me.
