It was a lucky coincidence to take that photograph. It was hot at the Epupa Falls Lodge & Campsite and I was watching the scenery from our half open wooden Bungalow. Directly in front of me was the Kunene river and I could observe the action at the shore. Sometimes there were a couple of tourists, sometimes nothing, sometimes some people from the village for their laundry and then there were three Himba women dancing and singing . I grabbed my camera some sweets and tried to remember the four Himba words I learned the day before and headed for the shore. At the beginning they were distanced as always and asked obstinate for money and also my sweets couldn`t change their mind.

⁣I think they remembered my face from a village walk in the morning, which we organized with a local guide from the village. At least they allowed me after a while to take a picture. The rest was rather easy – everybody here and especially the Himba are very beauty-conscious and love to look at oneself on a photograph. They even started to sing and dance again at the shore. Sometimes you just need a bit of luck and obstinacy and it never harms to be nice to everybody, nobody knows what that`s good for…⁣
