Mystic Birches
DESCRIPTION
In the area of Oud Reemst, in Otterlo (Netherlands) there is an isolated group of birch trees standing in the middle of a vast heather landscape. I have a fascination for trees and for the last 5 years I'm focussing primarily on landscapes, especially trees. Since birch trees rarely played a role in my previous projects I decided to start a new project with these beautiful trees. Looking at the white bark I imagined a photograph with spooky trees, isolated in the dark. What I needed was a layer of fog thick enough to get the tree line in the far background out of sight. I also had to take the photo during twilight. When the day came I arrived at the right time and of course I already had the right composition in mind. I installed my two flash lights on the left and on the right of the tiny forest in order to create the magical effect I wanted. Now it was all about the right camera settings and the right volume of flash light. Finally I found a square photograph most satisfying... AUTHOR
Jacob-Carl Pauw (1990) is a professional, Dutch photographer. Although he started within the broadest spectrum of nature photography in 2006, he's focusing more on landscape photography since 2017. From that period onward he suddenly began to develop a great fascination for trees and mystery. Besides making use of ideal weather conditions he began combining natural light with artificial light, in order to create unique photographs and with that a complete new style of his own.
